Dirty Three is also scheduled for a show at the Barbicon in London October 5 as part of the Don’t Look Back concert series, which also includes bands like Mum, Cat Power, Belle & Sebastian, Dinosaur Jr., and Gang of Four. Each group will perform one of its albums in its entirety. Dirty Three will be playing its 1998 effort Ocean Songs.
Dirty Three was formed in Melbourne, Australia 13 years ago by Ellis, who, besides being a classically-trained violinist, is also a member of fellow Aussie Nick Cave‘s small army – otherwise known as The Bad Seeds.
Ellis recruited Turner and White, themselves veteran musicians in Australia’s rock scene, and Dirty Three recorded its debut album, Sad & Dangerous.
Over the years, Dirty Three has embarked on a number of successful tours with the likes of Sonic Youth, Pavement, and John Cale, helping build their reputation for haunting, experimental music.
