More Power To Ya
She isn’t looking to do a major tour until her next album comes out in January, but fans in the Midwest and South can take solace in a two-week fall outing starting October 12 in Oberlin, Ohio.
Most of the dates are in venues and cities not ordinarily on the indie-rock itinerary, including several colleges and performing arts centers.
“It’s basically just going out and playing some cities she hasn’t played in a while, and getting to some interesting rooms that are more conducive to her solo performance, like some seated places and art galleries,” her agent, Jim Romeo of Ground Control Touring, told Pollstar.
The tour wraps October 26 at Louisville, Ky.’s Bomhard Theatre.
In November, she’ll do a one-off performance with the Blind Boys of Alabama as part of the free Music Downtown festival. The week-long event, held at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, also features Buddy Guy, Shemekia Copeland, Jeff Tweedy, Rickie Lee Jones, Vic Chesnutt and Keren Ann.
While Marshall often travels with a band, she’s done mostly solo performances this year and this tour will continue that pattern.
When her new album – reportedly titled The Greatest – is released on Matador next January, fans can expect a more robust itinerary, probably with a band and possibly with some interesting special guests.
Marshall recorded the album in Memphis with a number of seasoned studio musicians, including members of the Hi Records house band and Booker T. and the MG’s.
