Steve Marcus Dies

Jazz saxophonist Steve Marcus, 66, who toured and recorded with artists including Buddy Rich, Herbie Mann and Stan Kenton, died in his sleep September 25th at his New Hope, Pa., home.

Marcus was a pioneer of the jazz fusion movement of the 1960s that blended elements of jazz and rock ‘n’ roll.

Most recently, the Berklee School of Music alumnus had been touring with Buddy Rich tribute group Steve Smith & Buddy’s Buddies.

In addition to recording his own albums, Marcus collaborated on numerous others, including 2001’s Count’s Jam Band Reunion.
