Lang Sues Former Biz Manager

Grammy- winner k.d. lang is suing her former business manager, claiming that excessive fees were fraudulently drawn from her account.

Lang filed the suit November 8th in Los Angeles Superior Court against Annabel Lapp, the Annabel Lapp Group and employee Dina Correale. The action seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, according to Canadian Broadcast Corporation.

The suit reportedly alleges that hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of dollars have been misappropriated. Lang said the amount could not be determined because Lapp has failed to turn over the majority of her financial and business records.

Lapp represented lang and her touring entities from 1990 to September 2nd of this year, when she was ousted.

After the firing, lang reportedly paid Lapp $10,000 to box and ship of all her files to the singer. Lang claims Lapp supplied records only for the years 2004-05; her suit calls for further investigation of the previous 13 years.

The former business manager allegedly wrote checks on lang’s business accounts without disclosing the amounts or obtaining the singer’s approval, the suit reportedly claims.

It alleges that five checks totaling $22,000 were written in the week after Lapp was fired.

Following the termination, Lapp demanded payment of more than $50,000 in supposed fees plus an additional $75,000 to assist in the transition of lang’s affairs to a new business manager, according to CBC. Those fees remain in dispute.
