More Growth At Foxwoods

Foxwoods Resort Casino broke ground November 15th on a $700 million expansion of its already sprawling Mashantucket, Conn., casino/entertainment complex that will include a 4,000-seat performing arts center and 852-room hotel.

Officials said at the groundbreaking ceremony that the project will add 50 percent to the size of the presently 4.7-million-square-foot resort, according to The Day of New London, Conn. The expansion is expected to be completed by summer 2008.

A key component will be the performing arts center, which Foxwoods President/CEO William Sherlock said will be “…the biggest ballroom in Connecticut,” able to accommodate “almost any act in the world.”

Foxwoods opened with a 250,000-square-foot gaming complex in 1992. The expansion is expected to generate 2,300 jobs and make the resort-casino arguably the biggest employer in Connecticut with nearly 14,000 employees.
