Cat Power – a.k.a. singer/songwriter Chan Marshall – recruited a stellar cast of veteran Memphis musicians for the recording, and she’s managed to rope most of them into hitting the road with her as the Memphis Rhythm Band.

According to Matador Records, Marshall’s touring companions will include guitarist Teenie Hodges, bassist Leroy “Flick” Hodges (from Al Green’s classic band), current Booker T. & The MG’s drummer Steve Potts, famed producer Doug Easley on guitar, along with leading Memphis session men Jim Spake and Scott Thompson on horns and Rick Steff on organ. Two background singers and three string players, including Roy Brewer, will round out the lineup.

The tour starts at New York City’s Town Hall February 14, hitting elegant venues in Boston, Seattle and Los Angeles before making a two-night stand at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco February 23-24. The tour wraps in Chicago February 26 at the Vic Theatre.

Cat Power agent Jim Romeo of Ground Control Touring told Pollstar Marshall will tour again later in the spring with a new group of musicians as her Memphis friends return to their session work.
