UCF OKs Stadium

The University of Central Florida’s board of trustees approved a funding plan December 14th for a proposed $51 million, 45,000-seat stadium and set up a separate corporation to build the facility.

The Orlando university already has $4.5 million in gift pledges and agreements for 21 of the 25 luxury suites planned at the stadium, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

UCF Athletic Director Steve Orsini projects a March 1st groundbreaking in hopes the facility can be ready for the start of the 2007 college football season.

The school’s Golden Knights have played games at the Florida Citrus Bowl for decades.

First, trustees had to be convinced the stadium could generate enough money to cover its costs. Revenues are expected to come from premium seating, season ticket sales, naming rights, parking, concessions and rent.
