Super Motown

Detroit’s Aretha Franklin is the latest artist added to the Super Bowl XL musical bill.

The Queen of Soul is expected to perform the national anthem February 5th at Detroit’s Ford Field along with New Orleans natives Aaron Neville and Dr. John.

Franklin, Neville and a 150-person choir will accompany a recorded track laid down a few days before the all-star event.

The much ballyhooed halftime show with The Rolling Stones prompted demands for Detroit’s musical heritage to be represented as well. Additionally, John Legend and Joss Stone are expected to team up with Stevie Wonder to perform the Motown star’s hits during a pre-game show live on ABC.

The four days leading up to the big event include the Motown Winter Blast festival, which has several major artists scheduled to perform, including Smash Mouth, Clint Black, KEM, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Kindred the Family Soul, and Mark Farner.
