The brief theatre tour was to begin February 11 in Memphis, with eight U.S. dates booked in addition to a Matador Records showcase at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.

“Out of respect for Chan’s privacy, we can’t give more detailed information, but we hope and assume that you’ll respect her privacy during this time as well,” the label said.

“There will be information about refunds available imminently, and the tour will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

“Chan is a good friend and a dear member of the Matador family, and when we have news about future performances, we’ll be certain to share it with you here.”

Cat Power – a.k.a. singer/songwriter Chan Marshall – was to be backed on the tour by the group of veteran session musicians with whom she recorded her latest album, The Greatest. No information was given as to whether any rescheduled dates will feature the same band.

As of press time, her April 29 appearance at the Coachella festival in Indio, Calif., was still a go.
