Pink Guitarist Avoids Charges

Rafael Moreira, a guitarist who has worked with such pop stars as Pink and Christina Aguilera, won’t be charged for his confrontation with a music student.

Moreira was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking one of his students at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood with a guitar. There was insufficient evidence to bring charges against Moreira, a Los Angeles District Attorney representative said.

The guitarist’s attorney said his client was defending himself against an unruly student who attacked Moreira after the instructor criticized the student’s chops. The attorney said Moreira only used the guitar to protect himself from the student.

Moreira, a Brazilian native, graduated from the institute in 1998 and is listed on its Web site as one of its “success stories.” Moreira has toured with Pink and performed with Aguilera, Marc Anthony, Sisqo, and Mya. He fronts his own band, Magnetico, and appeared on CBS’s “Rock Star: INXS.”
