The reincarnation of ’80s band The Cars, featuring original members Elliott Easton and Greg Hawkes with new singer/guitarist Todd Rundgren, will hit the road on a co-headlining tour with Blondie this summer.

The amphitheatre tour is set to launch May 12 in Robinsville, Miss., and run through July 1 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Rundgren is the replacement for original frontman Ric Ocasek, who is apparently staying focused on his career as a solo artist and producer. When rumors began surfacing of a possible Cars reunion last year, Ocasek’s representatives made it clear he would not be involved.

Original bassist/vocalist Ben Orr died of cancer in 2000.

The New Cars will release a live album that also features three new studio recordings by the new lineup. The New Cars: It’s Alive was recorded in Los Angeles earlier this year.

According to a press release, dates in the U.K. and across Europe will be announced in the coming weeks.
