Babyface Files Suit Against Singer

Singer/producer Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Anita Baker, claiming she owes him more than $250,000.

According to the lawsuit filed April 14th, Baker broke two oral agreements with Edmonds, who co-wrote, produced and performed on “Like You Used To” on Baker’s 2004 album, My Everything.

The lawsuit says Baker refused to pay Edmonds producer’s royalties equaling at least $100,000 for his work. The album sold an estimated 500,000 copies.

Edmonds also alleges that he and Baker had an agreement to do four concerts together, but Baker canceled two shows and refused to pay $150,000 for those dates.

Edmonds’ lawyer said that oral agreements are not uncommon, and many choose to do the paperwork later.

Edmonds has written hits for a number of stars, including Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige and Bobby Brown.
