The current tour features a segment where band member Martin Gore sings a few songs before Gahan returns to the stage. However, Gahan had completely lost his voice by the time Gore’s segment was finished, forcing Gore to sing lead vocals for an additional 25 minutes before the band decided to pull the plug.

After an examination in Chicago this morning, a doctor advised Gahan to cancel tonight’s show at the Allstate Arena. The band’s next stop, a Saturday night show at Jones Beach Amphitheatre in Wantagh, N.Y., is expected to take place as planned.

The band issued a statement apologizing for last night’s abbreviated performance as well as the Chicago cancellation. The band also said that scheduling prevents a make up show for Chicago, but that they “are looking into it.”

Refunds for tickets for tonight’s Chicago show are available at point of purchase.
