Anti-Imposter Bill Signed In Illinois

The Truth In Music bill was officially signed into Illinois law by Gov. Rod Blagojevich June 14th.

The measure – which has the support of Mary Wilson and former Sha Na Na member Jon “Bowzer” Bauman – is designed to stop touring groups from using names of famous recording acts unless they meet certain criteria, such as having at least one member of the original band.

Violators could be fined up to $50,000, have any license to perform suspended or be forced to pay damages to the original group or artist.

The Vocal Group Hall of Fame is pushing to get similar laws passed nationwide. Connecticut and Pennsylvania have already signed on.
