Vocalist Steve Augeri will step down to recuperate, with Jeff Scott Soto taking his place as of the band’s July 7 show in Bristow, Va. Soto has performed with Journey guitarist Neal Schon in the past.

Augeri, who has been with Journey since 1998, will be monitored by a physician and may rejoin the tour at a later date.

“Steve’s been suffering with an acute throat condition since before we kicked off the tour with Def Leppard,” the band said in a press release. “We were hoping he’d be in well condition to handle the rigors of the road but unfortunately it appears to be a chronic condition requiring total voice rest.

“We all wish Steve a speedy recovery.”

The Journey / Def Leppard co-headlining tour launched June 23 and is set to run through late September, with nearly 40 dates still remaining.
