Roskilde Enjoys Dip In The Lake

With police reporting the number of incidents among the 79,000 crowd as being less than in the nearby 50,000-population city of Roskilde, Denmark, it looks like anyone who felt a little hot-headed just took a dip in the festival’s new lake.

Festival director Esben Danielsen was delighted to hear police comment on how well it all went. Apart from the fans, there were also 21,000 volunteer workers, 5,000 journalists and media people and about 1,000 musicians per day. The total number of people on site per day was close to 110,000.

The lake isn’t new but, as Danielsen explains, the festival foundation has been spending time and money cleaning it up and making it safe.

It was the right year to open as temperatures were clipping 30C and thousands took the chance to cool off.

Among the acts playing the biggest festival of its kind in Europe this year June 29th to July 2nd were Roger Waters, Guns N’ Roses, Scissor Sisters, The Strokes, Kaiser Chiefs, Bob Dylan, Arctic Monkeys, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Tool, Kanye West, Placebo, Coldcut, Sigur Ròs, Deftones, Rufus Wainwright, The Raconteurs, Editors, and Goldfrapp.
