Rain Didn’t Lower Highfield’s Spirit

A little rain didn’t dampen the crowd’s spirit as nearly 30,000 packed on to the shores of the Hohenfelden Reservoir to enjoy one of the last major festivals of the German season.

With only Rock Am See and Area 4 Festival to go, and the memory of scorching July weather already fading, FKP Scorpio chief Folkert Koopmans was happy to report “98 or 99 percent” business for a bill that included Massive Attack, Kaiser Chiefs, Panic! At the Disco, and Gentleman & The Far East Band.

The average crowd at Highfield Festival, one of the largest festivals in the eastern part of the country, has increased nearly 40 percent during the last five or six years.

Among the other acts trying to brighten a fading European summer August 18-20 were Broken Social Scene, Danko Jones, Eagles of Death Metal, and Futureheads.
