James Brown Gets Arena

Officials in James Brown‘s hometown of Augusta, Ga., have voted to rename the 8,500-seat Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum in the musician’s honor.

The venue will be known as the James Brown Arena pending a legal review to make sure the coliseum board has the authority to change the name.

The city has previously honored Brown, 73, with a statue and an eponymous street/music festival.

“I thank God and all the people there,” Brown said. “We want to build back Augusta.”
