Mariah Date Clashes With WNBA Final

The WNBA’s Detroit Shock has home-court advantage in the WNBA Finals, but if the series goes to a fifth game, it would be forced to move from The Palace of Auburn Hills to Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena.

The Auburn Hills, Mich., venue is set to host a Mariah Carey concert September 9th, and the Shock’s series against the defending champion Sacramento Monarchs begins August 30th.

Shock VP of basketball operations Craig Turnbull said the move to Joe Louis Arena makes the most sense for the team.

“It’s the venue within our proximity. It has large enough capacity. Our partners, the league and ESPN are comfortable with the venue. It makes sense,” he said.

Turnbull also said predicting the future can be difficult.

“It’s our business to maximize use of our venues, and when you look at the schedule you say, ‘What’s the likelihood that this is going to happen?'”
