Fatal Backstage Altercation

Texas authorities are seeking a man who allegedly shot and killed the son of Mexican singer/songwriter Joan Sebastian August 26th after the performer’s concert in Alton, Texas.

Police issued a warrant for the arrest of 21-year-old Ricardo “Richie” Sanchez in connection with the death of Trigo Figueroa. Figueroa, 27, was shot in the back of the head following the concert at Lienzo Charro Plaza del Valle Arena.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said the incident appeared to be random.

“We don’t believe the shooting had to do with anything in the past,” Trevino told The Monitor of McAllen, Texas. “We believe the three got upset because they were insulted in public and they were drunk.”

Figueroa and associate Antonio Navarro were holding back a crowd of invited guests while Sebastian signed autographs when the shooting took place.

Sanchez and two unidentified men reportedly began to curse at Figueroa because he wouldn’t let the men through. A fight ensued, and witnesses said the suspects fled on foot.

Figueroa was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. Navarro, who had been hit with a pistol, sustained minor injuries.

Trevino said the investigation is ongoing.
