S.F. Venue Plans

The San Francisco 49ers are close to announcing construction of a new, 68,000-seat football stadium, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. And there is a last-minute addition, the paper said: a possible 12,000-seat arena.

The venue would have considerably less capacity than other sports arenas in the area, including the Oakland Arena, HP Pavilion and the aging Cow Palace, but the developer reportedly wants the smaller arena to attract an indoor soccer or arena football team, along with the occasional concert.

The idea is to bring people to Candlestick Point year-round, the paper said.
