Doherty Given Time To Straighten Out
Judge Jane McIvor told Pete Doherty she likes the tune of the latest
Deferring sentence until December 4th, she said he will be able to avoid a custodial sentence as long as he stays clean.
She also noted that he tested negative for heroin in two tests last month and also passed a check for cocaine.
“I obviously want my life back really,” Doherty told reporters waiting outside Thames Magistrates’ Court September 4th.
He’d pleaded guilty to five charges of possessing heroin, cocaine – some of which was crack cocaine – and cannabis.
He’s undergoing treatment for drug addiction at the Priory clinic in Southgate, north London, although he reportedly told BBC’s Radio FiveLive that he “can’t afford” to continue.
Doherty’s Babyshambles has been playing European summer festivals, although his court appearances and brushes with the police and airport authorities led to a few cancellations.
