Bloomington Club Cancels Banton

A September 14th Buju Banton concert at Bloomington, Ind., nightclub the Bluebird Nightclub was canceled due to concerns by the Gay Liberation Network.

Banton has been criticized by gay activists for lyrics from an early 1990’s song, “Boom, Bye Bye,” which has lyrics that translate to advocation of shooting gay men, pouring acid on them and burning them alive, according to the GLN.

A gay activist group protested a Banton concert at the House of Blues Chicago the night before. Banton played at the Bluebird in 2003 reportedly without incident.
