Something New From Joanna
With a much-anticipated album on the way, Joanna Newsom has announced a number of fall tour dates.
The singer/songwriter/harpist will play Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts September 28, followed by two Canadian gigs and shows in Connecticut and Vermont.
Four more cities are booked for mid-November including Chicago and Philadelphia. A lone West Coast date, in Portland, Ore., is slotted for December 3.
Newsom’s sophomore album, Ys (pronounced “ees,” according to label Drag City), is due out November 14. The album features a full orchestra, arranged by legendary Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks. Steve Albini ( Pixies, Nirvana, Fugazi, plus tons more) engineered the recordings and Jim O’Rourke (Stereolab, Smog, and he’s in Sonic Youth – duh.) handled mixing.
