Buffett Sues Online Merchant

Jimmy Buffett has filed a lawsuit against a merchant based in Galveston, Texas, whom Buffett claims is unlawfully using the artist’s trademark to sell goods online.

Robert Akard’s Underonehut.com represents itself as “Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Online Store for Merchandise,” according to the lawsuit.

Akard is allegedly selling unauthorized clothing and beach-themed novelties with a high markup, Buffett’s attorney said.

Akard’s attorney countered that it’s a “classic case of David versus Goliath” and the lawsuit was filed after he began complying with Buffett’s initial requests.
