Anita O’Day Dies

Jazz vocalist Anita O’Day, 87, died in her sleep November 23rd at a convalescent hospital in Los Angeles where she was recovering from a bout with pneumonia.

She was dubbed the “Jezebel of Jazz” for her wild behavior and occasional run-ins with the law that were fueled by lengthy heroin and alcohol addictions.

Despite her ongoing battles with addiction and several health problems over the years, she continued recording and performing right up until her death, even releasing an album, Indestructable!, earlier this year.
