Police said several fights, some including 30 people, were under way when they arrived at the club (located in the Showboat Casino Hotel) at about midnight, the Press of Atlantic City reported. The show was halted and the club had to be evacuated.
“Just about all the units in the city had to respond due to the large number of people involved in the fight,” Detective Lt. William McMenamin told the paper. The fight spilled out of the club and onto nearby streets.
A Trenton man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and disorderly persons offenses stemming from the melee.
The fight may have started inside HoB when someone affiliated with the performers reportedly jumped off the stage to film the crowd and was trampled.
HoB General Manager Mike Grozier said in a statement that the situation was unfortunate and praised police and venue security.
“House of Blues hosts more than 250 performances annually, and the vast majority of shows play off without incident,” Grozier said. “In a rare situation, like we experienced [Thursday] evening, we have procedures in place to respond quickly to ensure the safety and security of our patrons and our neighbors in the community.
“Our security staff reacted effectively to diffuse the situation and we appreciate the efforts and assistance of the Atlantic City police department.”
