VNU Keeps Chopping

VNU cut 10 editorial staffers at the Hollywood Reporter December 1st. Additional cuts are expected to reduce VNU’s total workforce by 4,100 jobs or nearly 10 percent worldwide next year.

VNU, which also publishes Billboard, was purchased by a group of private equity firms earlier this year, and former General Electric executive David Calhoun was named CEO.

Calhoun immediately began a reorganization of the company, which he dubbed Project Forward. It’s unclear whether the most recent cuts are part of Project Forward or if they represent a new round of downsizing.

Also unclear is what the cuts might mean for the Nielsen companies that have been expanding in recent months. Their revenues are reportedly growing at the highest rates among VNU properties.
