Sandcastle Wins Chevrolet Amphitheatre

The owners of Pittsburgh’s Sandcastle Waterpark have successfully negotiated a deal with Live Nation to move Pittsburgh’s only permanent outdoor concert venue, the Chevrolet Amphitheatre.

The amphitheatre will be relocated to a space along the Monongahela River overlooking Riverplex, a picnic pavilion affiliated with Sandcastle that is next to the park, but not part of it.

Live Nation, which also operated the 18-year-old amphitheatre formerly known as IC Light Amphitheatre in its Station Square location, confirmed the deal in a statement January 2nd, and crews began dismantling the amphitheatre’s Teflon-lined tent the same day.

According to Sandcastle spokeswoman Mary Lou Rosemeyer, details including seating capacity, ticket prices and cross-promotion of concert and water park events are still being ironed out.

Although Live Nation declined to comment on its motivation for moving the venue, the real estate value at the shed’s longtime location has climbed considerably since the shed was built.
