Indonesia Stampede Kills 10
Ten people were killed and scores injured in a crowd stampede at a pop concert in Indonesia December 14th, police said.
An audience of thousands was leaving a performance by popular Indonesian pop/rock band Ungo at a sports stadium in the town of Pekalongan in Central Java province.
"People were very rough and began pushing," said a police sergeant. "The victims were trampled to death."
Nine of the fatalities, including three girls, were teenagers. Pekalongan is about 215 miles east of the capital of Jakarta.
