Brandy Faces Fallout From Crash

A December 30th automobile accident involving Brandy has resulted in some serious consequences for the 27 year-old singer/actress.

Brandy, whose given name is Brandy Norwood, was driving a Land Rover on Interstate 405 in Los Angeles when traffic slowed and her vehicle struck the back of another vehicle driven by 38-year-old waitress Awatef Aboudihaj, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Aboudihaj’s car hit another vehicle, slid into the center divider and was hit by a fourth car. She died later that day at a hospital from blunt-force injuries, according to the Los Angeles coroner’s office.

On January 29th, the CHP issued a report alleging that Norwood caused the accident by breaking a law against driving at a speed "greater than is reasonable or prudent" or that "endangers the safety of persons or property" and recommended that she be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

The city attorney’s office is currently reviewing the case to determine whether the evidence warrants the filing of charges.

The following day, January 30th, Aboudihaj’s parents filed a $50 million wrongful-death suit against Norwood, claiming that she was driving recklessly.

Norwood’s spokesman issued a statement saying that although the accident "was a terrible tragedy, and Brandy’s heart goes out to Awatef Aboudihaj’s family," the singer could not comment on the lawsuit for legal reasons.
