Promoter Jim Lunsford of One Accord Marketing announced the Bryan Station High School band would open for Ludacris at a February 22nd Rupp Arena performance, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

It looks as if the school OK’d the performance before listening to any of the rapper’s rhymes. A few days after the announcement, a parent reportedly e-mailed Ludacris’ lyrics to officials and the opening slot was canceled.

“We’re not trying to judge Ludacris or anything like that,” Superintendent Stu Silberman told the Herald-Leader. “We’re trying to make a decision based on what we believe is best for our kids.”

Lunsford, who apparently plans to donate $10,000 to the school’s music program for each concert he promotes in Lexington, told the paper he would continue with that commitment, and said the students could open for another act he brings to the arena, pending parent and school approval.

“We have to backtrack and listen to their music and see if it’s going to be acceptable by the parents,” Lunsford said. “From now on, we’re going to have to personally listen to it and check it to make sure there’s no conflicts like this.”
