Softball Showman Eddie Feigner Dies
Eddie Feigner, the fire-balling softball showman whose four-man team known as "King and His Court" toured the globe for 50 years, has died.
Feigner, 81, a former marine known for his clean crew cut and 100 mph-plus fastball, died of a respiratory ailment related to dementia, his wife Ann Marie Feigner said.
His playing career ended when he suffered a stroke one day after throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Sydney Olympic Games’ women’s softball competition in 2000.
He visited more than 300 military installations during his career and was often featured on TV specials. He threw 930 no-hitters, 238 perfect games and struck out 141,517 batters in more than 10,000 games.
