Doherty Banned From Driving

It may be that he had the same driving instructor as George Michael because drug-fuddled Babyshambles frontman Peter Doherty has also been hit for some erratic steering.

Thames Magistrates’ Court banned him from driving for two months, fined him £300 and ordered him to pay £55 costs on charges of driving without insurance and an appropriate license.

They related to an incident on November 18th when officers saw the Babyshambles frontman driving his blue Jaguar erratically in east London.

"He was asked to produce the documents and he could not do so," said prosecuting lawyer Tanyia Dogra.

Sean Curran, for the defence, said that Doherty accepts that he was driving with no license and insurance.

"He had left the task of getting an insurance policy in the hands of one of his managers, who hadn’t done so. He has passed a driving test but he has never applied for a license. He doesn’t have a license, or has ever had one, but he is entitled to have one. He was driving to the airport for a trip to Portugal to get an implant," he explained.

District Judge Jane McIvor told Doherty that he risks a community judgment or, with his record more likely a custodial sentence, if he drives a vehicle before April 12th.

It’s understood police will take no further action against Doherty over allegations he was in possession of crack cocaine when he was arrested. Two other driving charges were dropped.
