Bjork And Beastie Boys Go For Heineken

Bjork, Beastie Boys and Muse are among the first acts named for this year’s Heineken Open’Er Festival (June 29 to July 1), the second time it’s been staged on its new site at Gydnia’s Babie Doly Airport.

Tomek Rawski of Alter Art is expected to announce more of the bill for the 40,000-capacity Baltic Sea coast event within days.

Two years ago, Heineken moved from Gydnia’s 25,000-capacity Kosciuszko Square because – in its fifth year – it had already outgrown the site.

Since the first Heineken drew a 10,000 sellout crowd to Warsaw’s Tor Stegny Stadium in 2002, the event has expanded so fast that it now needs a field with room for 40,000.

Among the acts that have helped it grow so fast over the years are Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, Pharrell Williams, Manu Chao, Kanye West, Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx, and The Streets.
