AEG Adds Olympic Depot

Anschutz Entertainment Group has unveiled plans to build a hotel and training facility near the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., three weeks before the U.S. Olympic Committee is expected to choose the U.S. nominee for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

AEG released architectural renderings of a 150-room hotel/conference center and training room March 26th.

"The additional facilities, training elements and resources that will be available to athletes and federations headquartered here will further solidify The Home Depot Center as an important location for the development of our current and future Olympic athletes," AEG president Tim Leiweke said in a statement.

The International Olympic Committee is expected to announce a host city in October 2009. Some critics have charged that Los Angeles was making a lackadaisical pitch for the Games, at least up until AEG announced the new Depot phase.

The new construction is still in the planning stages and AEG will reportedly reassess its need if L.A. is bypassed for the Olympics.
