72,000 Took The Taxis

Having pulled a record-breaking 72,000 across last year’s three-day festival, the organisers of Brussels’ Couleur Café appear confident they’ve got the headliners to do similar business this year.

They’ll be announced throughout April, although seminal Arabian guitarist Rachid Taha (who has The Clash among his fans), South Africa’s Johnny Clegg, The Roots, Salsa shaker Yuri Buenaventura, and Ismael Lo – "a Senegalese Bob Dylan" – are already being advertised.

Last year’s headliners included Tracy Chapman, George Clinton and James Brown, who – as the festival press statement mournfully points out – "graced us with his last-ever Belgian concert before entering into legend forever."

This year’s 18th edition of Couleur Café, which will be held on the usual site on the edge of the city’s old Tour and Taxis industrial estate, takes place June 29 to July 1.
