Zamboni DUI

A New Jersey judge recently ruled that those found operating a Zamboni under the influence cannot be charged with drunken driving.

Apparently the ice rink-grooming machines don’t fall under the same classification as motor vehicles because they can’t carry passengers and aren’t usable on the road.

The ruling stems from a 2005 incident when a Zamboni operator at the Mennen Sports Arena was charged with drunken driving after a coworker reported he’d nearly crashed the machine into the rink’s boards.
