Texas Storm Outruns Stock Cars

A destructive North Texas storm moving across the Fort Worth area April 13th led to a canceled street festival and nixed the Nascar Nextel Cup qualifying races.

At least one person was reported injured and at least one tornado touched down in Tarrant County, a National Weather Service meteorologist said. The storm damaged a grocery store roof and a church in Hatlom City was destroyed.

Cheap Trick was set to headline a two-day street festival featuring racecar drivers at downtown Fort Worth’s Sundance Square entertainment district. Also scheduled to perform during the annual Chevy Thunder event April 13-14 were Charlie Daniels, Tracy Byrd, and Little Texas.

Thousands who showed up to Texas Motor Speedway to watch the Nascar races were told to head for shelter as tornado sirens blared in Fort Worth.
