Zewtopia’s Closed
A two-day festival in Mobile, Ala., was canceled less than a week before the event, officially because of "a breakdown in communication between the promoter and the band’s booking agencies," according to a statement by fest sponsor WZEW.
Zewtopia’s lineup included Blue October, Drive-By Truckers, Gov’t Mule, and Blind Boys of Alabama for the weekend of April 20-21. Drive-By Truckers and Gov’t Mule are now scheduled to play the city’s Soul Kitchen venue that weekend.
Artists started dropping off the bill in April and, by April 13th, the headliners were no longer performing. Agents contacted by Pollstar said they canceled after waiting for artist binders that never came.
It’s not clear who the "promoter" was for the radio station-sponsored event, other than the radio station. Frank Giglio of Sound Stage Live acted as a middle buyer but Giglio told Pollstar he acted only as a booking liaison and the buyer was the radio station, which could not be reached at press time.
The lineup also included Sister Hazel, Little Feat, Susan Tedeschi and several others.
