Sandcastle Stays Quiet

The Amphitheatre at Sandcastle near Pittsburgh will not be opening this summer as planned.

"An aggressive construction schedule and delays in obtaining necessary permits led us to the conclusion that it was in everyone’s best interest to delay the opening until 2008," Live Nation senior VP Tom Mendenhall said in a statement.

The Fray was expected to open the season June 17th. "Weird Al" Yankovic, Goo Goo Dolls and Bryan Adams / George Thorogood & The Destroyers were also on the summer’s lineup.

The owners of Pittsburgh’s Sandcastle Waterpark successfully negotiated a deal with Live Nation in January to move Pittsburgh’s only permanent outdoor concert venue, the Chevrolet Amphitheatre, which was renamed.
