Hummingbirds Founder Dies
James Davis, patriarch of gospel group Dixie Hummingbirds, died in Philiadelphia April 17th.
The 90-year-old Davis retired in 1984 but the Dixie Hummingbirds are still active, with dates already set for next year. The Hummingbirds were formed in 1928, recorded its first record on Decca in 1942 and recorded "Loves Me (Like a Rock)" with Paul Simon in 1973.
The group’s subsequent version of the song garnered it a Grammy.
