U.K. Police Cancel Lloyd Banks Gig
Derbyshire police forced the cancellation of a concert by G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks, saying they didn’t have adequate time to prepare because they weren’t aware of the show until it was only four days away.
When the East Midlands force became aware of the May 5th show at Derby’s T Five Club, which had already shifted 600 tickets, it applied for a court order to close the venue down for 24 hours.
According to reports in the Derby Telegraph, the police feared the concert would attract gun-toting gang members and were worried about a repeat of previous violent incidents in Derby and recent shootings in Loughborough and Leeds.
"Because of the lack of preparation time and us finding out at short notice, there hasn’t been time to put the proper contingencies in place to make sure the event goes off in a safe environment," chief inspector Gary Parkin, who is responsible for policing the city center, told the Derbyshire daily.
"We’re not saying this type of thing won’t happen in Derby but it needs to happen in the right circumstances," he explained.
