Trinity Strengthens The Citadel
After running a couple of successful shows at Berlin Citadel in 2006, locally based Trinity Concerts is producing a summer season of concerts on the old castle grounds.
"It’s on the outskirts of the city and we did shows with Madness and Blackmore’s Night to make Berlin people more aware of the venue and test the reaction," explained Trinity Concerts’ press and promotions manager Marita Fabiunke.
The concerts are held in the 300-year-old Zitadelle Spandau’s 10,000-capacity courtyard – close to the prison where Hitler deputy Rudolf Hess was imprisoned until his death in 1987 – but Trinity isn’t expecting all the shows to pull crowds that size.
Last year’s shows with Madness and Blackmore’s Night pulled 4,500 and 3,500 respectively, although Fabiunke is confident of a better average attendance for the first full season.
The shows begin June 2nd with Berliner Symphoniker. The top national and international acts include Mando Diao, Jethro Tull, BAP, Patti Smith, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Status Quo, Joan Baez, Helmut Lotti, Steely Dan, Chuck Berry, Katie Melua, and Norah Jones.
