R. Kelly Trial Delays
Five years have passed since R. Kelly was charged with possession of child pornography, yet the singer has yet to go to trial.
Kelly’s attorneys contend that it’s not him on a tape that shows a man having sex with an underage girl, saying his likeness may have been computer generated.
The singer pleaded not guilty, and has continued to record – he’s released six albums since being charged – and tour.
Several factors have contributed to the delay in bringing the case to trial, including presiding Judge Vincent Gaughan’s fall from a ladder just before he was expected to set a trial date last year.
Also, Kelly’s emergency surgery for a burst appendix caused him to miss a February status hearing.
