Zola Taylor Dies
A memorial service for Zola Taylor, who died at age 69 on April 30th, was expected to be held at a Los Angeles funeral home May 14th.
Taylor was discovered by Platters founder Herb Reed and joined the group in the 1950s.
She became the first female singer in a successful R&B group of this era, spawning a host of imitators. Taylor was portrayed by Halle Barry in the 1998 television biopic "Why Do Fools Fall In Love," which focused on Taylor’s dramatic love story with husband Frankie Lymon.
