AEG Sues TV Station

Two companies owned by Denver billionaire Philip Anschutz are suing an NBC affiliate they claim falsely reported the Staples Center is a firetrap.

The suit was filed Wednesday.

The Anschutz Entertainment Group and a subsidiary, L.A. Arena Company, allege KNBC-TV "manufactured a crisis where none existed." The suit accuses KNBC-TV of using misleading images and language in December reports about the potential for a fire at the arena, which is home to the Los Angeles Lakers. The suit seeks unspecified damages from the station, a producer, and KNBC-TV’s parent, NBC Universal.
KNBC-TV says the suit is without merit.
