Rubin Joins Columbia
Producer and Def Jam Records co-founder Rick Rubin has joined Columbia Records.
Sony Music Label Group chairman Rob Stringer said Rubin will work in partnership with chairman Steve Barnett to move Columbia to the forefront of artist development while building a new business model.
Rubin will bring along his American Recordings imprint, as well as American’s catalog, which includes recordings by Johnny Cash, The Black Crowes, Danzig, and The Jayhawks, according to a company statement.
In addition to helming albums for Sony/BMG artists, Rubin will continue producing for artists at other labels, including Warner Brothers.
