Plasterk To Open Oerol

Culture minister Ronald Plasterk will cut the tape on this year’s Oerol Festival, rolling out the event with a June 15 show from popular Dutch chansonniere Wende Snijders.

The 25-year-old theatre and music festival takes over the small North Sea island of Terschelling for nearly two weeks, attracting nearly 100,000 visitors to a wide-ranging program of shows, visual arts, music and various crossovers.

In the course of a little more than 25 years, the event has grown from a small street festival in Westerkeyn to a multi-disciplinary festival of international renown.

This year’s Oerol is June 15-24.
