Anschutz Examining L.A.

Despite dire predictions for the future of the newspaper industry, Denver billionaire Philip Anschutz may be about to dive into a fourth market for his Examiner chain of free dailies.

Newspaper trade magazine Media Life reports that Anschutz may take on the troubled Los Angeles Times on its own turf by the end of the year.

Citing an industry source familiar with Clarity Media Group’s expansion plans, Media Life reports the plans have "advanced to the point of preparing collateral materials such as rate cards."

Clarity Media Group is the Examiner chain’s parent company, owned by Anschutz. The chain has publications in San Francisco, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
